    What is WordPress for Beginners

Despite its immense popularity, there still are people who don’t know much about WordPress, especially the beginners. For their benefit, WordPress is a software and service that you can download and add into your own website.

WordPress is free and open for anyone with a passion for blogging. This makes it a very popular blogging tool with more than 60 million websites using it. In fact, as of August 2013, statistics showed that of the top ten million websites in the world, more than18.9% use this site.

This software was founded by Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little and was first launched on May 27 of 2003. Other than being free, another factor that contributes to its popularity is its extremely easy-to-use features. The latest version, WordPress 3.6, had been downloaded more than 6 million times by September 2013.
As long as you have web hosting, you can use the site. You can even create a website using WordPress which also happens to be a very simple activity.

Easy Steps on How to Use WordPress

As we have already seen, you will need a hosting account and a Domain name to use this free site. Below are the steps to follow to be able to use the software/service:

    •    Log into your account using your hosting company’s website
    •    Go to control panel or profile options and locate WordPress. You can find it in the “Software/Services” segment of your control panel though this can vary with different hosting companies.
    •    After locating “WordPress”, click the icon then you can choose if you want to install the latest version or import an installation that exists already.
    •    Check your mailbox for a notification from WordPress to verify your username and password. These are what you will be using to access your account. You may have to modify the password to your own preference.
    •    Use your password and username to log in to your WordPress account. Click the “Appearance” tab” >Add New Themes and choose your preferred theme. Click “Install Now” then “Activate” to enable your theme. To disable the theme, go to Appearance >Themes>Delete.
    •    Go to Plug-ins >Add New Plug-ins and choose the Plug-ins you want to add to your account. Examples of plug-ins you may choose are the latest Twitter tools and SEO.
    •    Go to Dashboard for further exploration.  You may edit your site’s PHP by going to “Appearance” > “Editor”. Make sure to copy and paste your HTML code elsewhere for back-up in case anything goes wrong. WordPress may be easy-to-use but that doesn’t make it 100% error-free.
